Lisa Caruana is the founder of Written Root, a consulting practice working at the intersection of grant strategy, GIS analysis, and ecological landscape design for water resource organizations in Colorado. Her work is grounded in a systems thinking approach — the conviction that lasting change requires addressing underlying system structures, not just surface symptoms — and in a cross-disciplinary background that lets her move between the technical, organizational, and funding dimensions of a project.

She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture with a GIS certificate from CU Denver and a Master of Science in Environmental Studies from CU Boulder, where she focused on Colorado water policy, environmental values, and designing programs to promote sustainable behavior. She has spent five years working in and around Colorado watershed organizations, including as Program Director for a watershed nonprofit in the Upper Colorado River Basin.

Her current work focuses on grant strategy and organizational consulting for watershed restoration organizations in Grand County, Colorado — one of the most heavily diverted watersheds in the state.
